Childers attended The Citadel as a part of the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Program. He majored in French.
Childers served during Desert Storm in 1991. He was killed in action on March 21, 2003 in Iraq and posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and promoted to first lieutenant.
