What kind of contributions do you make to the DME team and their goals?
I have the privilege of being a part of the VA’s social media team. There, I focus on the Facebook page, sorting and filtering through hundreds of comments and posts per day and organizing them into categories to maximize efficiency. Filters can include labeling questions for a faster reply/answer, reporting foul language and suicidal comments, monitoring complaints and anything else that is worth labeling.
How does your work at DME help you reach your professional goals?
This internship is 100% remote, which has helped me with my time management skills. The pressure is on since I’m fully independent and responsible for my work. We are all independent yet are a team. I really enjoy the environment. In order to effectively do my job, I have to make sure I carefully read through comments and take the time to analyze and assess each one. My reading comprehension and ability to judge appropriately have improved.
Why would you recommend DME to others?
I think this is a great way to get involved with our government! We are helping REAL people who have served our country and are learning valuable skills for our own professional lives. Its low maintenance but enough to make you feel responsible for something tangible and that your contribution is valued.
